What is 1-Wire?
The 1-Wire bus is a robust, two-wire bus system for sensors, actuators, and automation - from smart homes to industrial facilities. Thanks to its 64-bit addressing, this bus supports hot-swapping. Bus devices can be connected and disconnected while the system is running.
Physically, 1-Wire is a digital, serial bus that, in its most basic configuration, requires only a single data line (DQ/1-Wire) and a ground line (GND). The name derives precisely from this: in addition to the existing ground line, only one additional wire—the data line—is needed for all bus communication.

1-Wire coupler, adapter, or ECO gateway?
Both the 1-Wire Adapter DS9490R and the 1-Wire coupler establishes the physical connection to the 1-Wire bus. All communication (querying sensors, reading data, managing logic) must be handled externally via software. The bus is accessible, but nothing happens without a dedicated application.
The devices in the ECO series handle all communication and management. Bus participants are automatically detected, data is processed internally, and made available directly via standard protocols (Ethernet, MQTT, Modbus, SNMP, etc.). No drivers, no low-level programming required - just plug it in and configure it. Plug & Play. Hot-swappable.

1-Wire Bus Termination
In every 1-Wire network, a defined line termination at the end of the bus ensures a stable, low-reflection signal. This is especially true for long cable runs and star/tree topologies. Without termination, reflections can lead to read errors or sporadic failures. For small and medium-sized networks, external termination is not strictly necessary.
The 1-Wire Term 1 from ESERA combines a passive and an active terminating resistor and indicates bus activity via an LED. It is compact enough to fit directly into a flush-mounted box.
