LoRaWAN
LoRaWAN is a wireless network protocol. LoRaWAN was designed for large, public networks with a single operator. It targets important requirements of the Internet of Things (IoT), such as bidirectional communication, end-to-end encryption, mobility and localization services. LoRaWAN is designed to wirelessly connect battery-powered “things” to the Internet in regional, national or global networks. The network architecture is typically star-shaped.
With the installation of a radio module in the form of a LoRa gateway, data can be queried around the clock from any location. LoRa gateways are radio modules that serve as an interface within a LoRa network between a server and the end devices.
LoRaWAN and IoT
In recent years, a trend has developed in connection with the use of LoRaWAN and Internet of Things (IoT) technology.
LoRaWAN is increasingly coupled with IoT-applications, as data can be queried and evaluated at any time, regardless of location.
LoRaWAN - Areas of application / Application examples
- Agricultural management, e.g. soil moisture in a field, humidity in the greenhouse
- Pollutant measurement, e.g. fine dust concentration, smoke development
- Temperature monitoring, e.g. in data centers, greenhouses, wine cellars, etc.
- Energy supply, e.g. automated transmission of meter readings
